William & Sons (Pty) Ltd is a clothing manufacturing company established in 1979. When the company started, it had three (3) employees and two domestic machines. BEDCO contributed enormously in the development of the business through its training, both in Technical and Business Management in the years 1980-1990. It was through Business Management Training that I am now able to manage my own record keeping system, not only that but it also helped me to do my own marketing for my products, so that it is known throughout Lesotho. The Technical Training that BEDCO offered in sewing did not only focus on the enterprise management but also the employees and as such the business on its own did not incur any training expenses for their employees.
In 1994-95 BEDCO organized a workshop for clothing manufacturers to show their products to the Central Stores with the purpose of convincing the government to buy from them. The Central Stores also provided the manufactures with the tendering procedures, and it was from that workshop that I was able to tender and win substantial tenders from the government hospitals, Prisons and Police.
BEDCO’s contribution towards the development and expansion of my business did not end with training only but included financial assistance. When I was unable to service large orders from government BEDCO granted me a loan.
At present the business has twelve (12) employees and seventeen (17) industrial machines. The acquisition of industrial machines was also achieved through BEDCO’s loan. The turnover per year is now well over half a million with the increase of 20% - 25% per annum.
